The Great Urban Race 2010

Saturday Greg and I competed in the Great Urban Race here in Ft. Worth.  It's basically like the Amazing Race TV show but instead of finding clues all over the world it's just all over the city.  It was so FUN!   What we didn't realize was what we were getting ourselves into, we probably ran a total of 7 miles after all was said in done:)  I was very proud of Greg because he's not a "runner" and he kept up quite well:) Way to go sweetie!
We started the race at 12:00pm and finished in 2 hours and 16 minutes!  We didn't realize how good we did until we crossed the finish line.  We were the 6th team to cross out of 259 teams!  WOW!  We were shocked!
We had to turn in all our clue results and had everything EXCEPT:( one of our pictures didn't take so we got a penalty!  BUMMER!  So we were the 6th team to cross the finish line (15 miles behind 1st place)  but with the penalty we got 30 minutes added to our time...boo!!  We found out today that that put us in 23rd place and the top 25 qualify for Nationals in Las Vegas...wow right?? We are so excited but it ends up we can't go because Abby's birthday is the same day:( ~ that's ok we now know we can kill it:) and we'll win first place next year!!   So fun...I am so glad we did it!  I think we should go on Amazing Race don't you? ha!

Us right before the race...we had no idea what we were getting into to:)  So sweet...ha!

waiting for the games to begin...

and waiting...together.

alot of people dressed up in silly outfits...maybe I'll get Greg to be a bumblebee next year??:)

one of the clues had us take a picture in front of this sign

high five someone in uniform....there is a policeman in there

we had to go to a kids art studio and paint a picture of Mona Lisa with two modern objects in the picture.  Greg painted headphones and sunglasses...good job Gregory!:)

This is actually a pretty funny story.  We were running along and we just happened to pass a custard (like ice cream, but better) place.  Now I hadn't eaten any lunch and we were super hot AND had been running for about 45 minutes SOOO ok yeah we stopped and shared a bowl...we were hungry and it was yummy:)  We got a few funny looks from some other contestants but we have no shame...apparently;)  It reminds me of high school when I ran cross country.  We would have to run 7 miles after school and about 4 miles in there was a Dairy Queen...yep, we would stop and get one from time to time and run the rest of the way back to school....ha that makes me smile every time I think of it;)  oh the memories!  Anyways while we were waiting to get our custard we turn around and low and behold there was a fountain and one of the things we had to do on our clue sheet was pretend to dive into a fountain....I think it was fate--well, if I believed in that that's what I would have thought it was;)  I think God wanted us to have this custard...don't you? ha!

I can hula hoop all day:)  For the clue I only had to do it 3 times....easy shmeazy ;)

We had to feed each other cookies...they were pretty good.  Yes, Greg was cramming it in my face;)  Thank you very much!

all done and waiting for the bus.  During the race you could only use your feet or public transportation to get around.  We didn't figure out the bus system very quickly but were able to catch a ride back to the finish line...yipppee!!!

ALL DONE...wow, thank goodness what a workout!
